There’s a common misconception that marketing your business costs a lot of money.
But, not all marketing is as expensive as advertising in Times Square!
Here’s 5 affordable marketing tactics you can try on to get more leads, increase awareness of your business and build your reputation in your industry.
1) Public speaking
Community events, chambers, libraries and networking groups all look for guest speakers for their events, which allows you to demonstrate your expertise and showcase your business to new audiences. Schedule as many talks as you can fit into your schedule to establish your reputation as the expert in your field.
2) Complimentary samples
Offering a sample product, free phone consultation or gift with purchase (think ADDed value!) are great ways to give someone a no-cost, no-obligation experience with what your business offers. In fact, explore options outside of your place of business, such as offering samples or free advice at a community event booth.
3) Birthday messages
Sending your most loyal clients wishes on their birthdays is a thoughtful, unexpected way to reinforce your business relationship. You can even add in a gift or special value offer on your service or product. If you have a physical location, use the birthday message to bring customers in where they not only claim their gift, but also see what else you offer.
4) Partnerships
Building and nurturing strategic partners is a great way to grow your customer base. By joining forces with a business or organization that’s in a related or complementary category, you and the partner will both benefit from putting your names in front of new audiences.
Partnering with a local nonprofit can also build community. For example, you can donate a percent of the day’s or month’s sales to the nonprofit - the organization encourages their supporters to visit your business, then the nonprofit gets a larger donation and you get more sales!
5) Apply for business or community service awards
There is an abundance of local, regional and nationwide publications and organizations that sponsor annual business awards to highlight businesses that contribute in various ways. BizX America is one example of an annual conference and awards gala sponsored by ActionCOACH.
Once you win, you can display physical awards in your office, post to your website and socials, and announce in press releases for more recognition.
Research which awards and categories are the best fit for your business and gather information about how to become a nominee. Ask your business coach or a colleague to nominate you.
