While prospecting for new clients is essential for business growth, it's important to not overlook the potential within your existing clientele. In fact, it costs 6-10 times more to get a new client than it does to do more business with current clients!
By following these 3 steps to develop strong, meaningful relationships with clients, you will not only ensure your current success but also set yourselves up for future growth.
1. Identify your top clients.
First, you'll want to closely consider your top-performing clients–those who consistently support your business, love your products or services, and gladly refer others.
2. Be intentional about building deeper relationships.
Move beyond brief interactions and occasional emails. Consider meeting them for lunch, or paying a visit to their office.
Remember that people connect with people, not companies! Don’t be afraid to show your true self in interactions. Remember key details about your clients, such as their preferences, past purchases, or birthdays. Personal touches show you see them as more than just a transaction.
Regularly ask your clients for their opinions and feedback. Let them know their input matters and helps you improve your products and services.
A simple thank-you goes a long way. Show gratitude for their business, their time, and their loyalty. A handwritten note, a thank-you email, or even a social media shoutout can be meaningful.
3. Earn trust by consistently delivering and impressing.
Deliver exceptional service and products to your core clients consistently.
Always deliver on your promises, and be quick to resolve any issues that your client faces. Clients will trust you more when they see you honor your word and will appreciate your dedication to making things right.
Trust is built over time, through consistent and reliable actions. If you’re consistent in how you communicate, deliver, and interact with clients, you’ll gradually build trust–allowing for a positive and enthusiastic response to a request for referrals.
