Team activities encourage collaboration, breaking down silos and fostering a unified workforce. When colleagues interact outside their usual roles, they gain fresh perspectives, enriching problem-solving and innovation.
If you’re looking to strengthen your team and build up a more cohesive workplace, here are three different creative activities that you can implement:
ZOOM (DURATION: 30 - 45 MINUTES)
Zoom is a problem-solving game that requires the wordless book, Zoom, by Istvan Banyai. If you don't have the book, you can use a similar guide. The cool thing about this game is that it's all about telling a story without using any words. Each participant gets a picture from the book and has to keep it hidden from the rest of the group. Everyone gets 10 minutes to take notes and think about where their picture fits in the story. Then, players take turns describing their picture and adding to the story. This game helps colleagues communicate because they all have a common goal. It's easy to learn and a super effective team building exercise for work.
MINEFIELD (DURATION: 15 - 30 MINUTES PER TEAM)
In this game, participants work in pairs. One person is blindfolded and the other person guides them through a field of scattered objects. The guide has a list of objects they need to find, and they have to help their partner locate them. To make it more exciting, you can set a timer and see which team can work together the best in a certain amount of time. Spectators can even try to distract the players by making noise. This game helps colleagues communicate, solve problems together, and work as a team.
EGG DROP (DURATION: 1 HOUR)
This classic team building exercise can get a little messy, but it's a lot of fun! Divide the group into teams of two or three. Each team's task is to build a package for an egg that will protect it from breaking when dropped from different heights. They can use materials like newspapers, straws, tape, balloons, and rubber bands. Give them 30 minutes to communicate, share ideas, and experiment. Start from a lower height and work your way up to see which team did the best job.
Investing in team building reaps multifaceted rewards. A motivated, cohesive team is the bedrock of a thriving, adaptable business.
