We have a formula we use in ActionCOACH to guide the personal development journey to success.
This formula can be applied to your personal and business life. It's universal, and no matter what your "have" is, applying this formula will help you get clarity and stay focused on what you need to do to reach your goals.
The formula may appear simple, but it's not necessarily easy because it takes thought, intention, work and commitment from you. But, once you know it it works and start implementing it, you'll see the results!
Most people believe that if they take the right actions or "do" the right things and "have" what they want in life, they will "be" the person who merits the "haves" -- they view the formula as DO X HAVE = BE.
For example, if you say, "I want to be successful, and to be successful, I need to purchase a vacation home on the beach in San Diego, California. To be able to buy that property, I need to earn X amount in salary, and have X amount saved for a down payment and closing costs. To make sure I'm investing right, I need to learn more about real estate investing and spend X on the real estate investing class. I also need to learn how to run a business that can pay me X in salary and stash away X in profit, which means I need to...." and the list goes on.
If your "be" is the end goal, there will always be more you need to do or have to get there. No matter which way you work the formula, you must always "do," or take the right actions, to be able to have something. But, your identity, values and beliefs -- the person you need to become -- is always a multiplying factor.
So, who do you want to be? How do you want people to remember you? And, what's important to you?
Here's how the formula works:
1️⃣ First, what do you want to HAVE - is it more money to donate, house, cars, electronics, art, businesses, investments, etc.? Choose something specific and measurable. For instance, "I want to earn $100,000 in salary this year," or, "I want to take two weeks of vacation."
2️⃣ This clarity makes it easier to understand what you need to DO – what are the steps necessary to make the HAVE happen? If your goal is one new client a week, how many leads do you need to convert? How many phone calls do you need to make to produce that number of leads? What kind of sales trainings or classes do you need to take? What type of training does your team need in sales? Then, make the action plan to get there.
3️⃣ Then, who do you need to BE to do what you need to DO - who’s the person you need to become in pursuit of your goals? What do you need to learn? Are there habits you need to change or develop? What people do you need to surround yourself with?
Your business is perfectly designed to give you its current results by the business owner you are today.
So, what changes do you need to make to reach your personal or business goals? What actions, learnings, steps do you need to DO to become the person you need to BE to HAVE what you want?
And then remember, working on your BE will amplify anything you need to DO to HAVE the results you want.
